AUGUST 10 2013 VINTAGE SLOT CAR CLUB
"Thingies" from back in the 1960's were creations purely of ones imagination and did not represent any scale representation of a real car. These cars were in many cases outrageous designs with at times a strong focus on design for speed with light weight and low slung chassis. As outrageous as these designs were, the names given to the cars were also dramatic such as La Cucaracha (Spanish for cockroach), Sonic Needle, Assassin, Renegade, Snake, Manta Ray, Phantom, Ocelot, Blue Monster, Bandit, Banshee, Gamma Ray & Stinger. There was a very heated debate at the time that played out in the pages of the slot car magazines concerning the lack of scale appearance of the "thingies", some of that talk lingers even today regarding the 1/24 "wing" cars raced in some commercial raceways that have been said to resemble "foil wrapped wedges of space cheese" - today's incarnation of the "thingies".
